Diet, Fittness and Daily Devotionals

We’re starting the New Year off with something a little different.  Janet K. Brown has written most of her adult life, but since her retirement as a bookkeeBrown janet (3)per and medical coder, she writes as a second career and as a ministry.

Divine Dining is the author’s second book, following her 2012 debut novel Victoria and the Ghost. Divine Dining encompasses her passion for diet, fitness, and God’s Word.  Today she tells us how the book came into being.

Here’s Janet’s guest post.

Isolation is no friend to a compulsive individual like me. Writers live secluded, isolated lives. Though we love to meet and greet at writing conferences or monthly critique groups, in the end, we must sit before a keyboard or writing pad and plug away at putting words on the page all by ourselves.

Other writers can’t babysit us. How would they ever write?

brown - DivineDining  Reviewers criticize us. Friends will envy or support. Either way, they can’t cheerlead, watchdog, or keep us company while we work.

Families encourage us. They urge healthy living to prolong our strength and energy, but they can’t sit by our sides with orders such as “Get up and do a fifteen minute jog, or “Don’t buy that candy. You’ll eat it when you get anxious or bored.”

We’re grown-ups, after all. We know that a healthy body and an alert mind will equip us to write better, be a better wife/husband, and worship God with our voices, our actions and our words.

My latest release is my one non-fiction book (Divine Dining: 365 Devotions for Healthier Weight and Abundant Wellness) born out of personal experience with doing things wrong. Years on the job with my last employer put me in an office by myself for hours on end, with desk drawers easy to fill with bags of candy or donuts. The situation ended with continued weight gain until I topped two hundred and fifty pounds, and doctors diagnosed me with multiple health problems.

I spent three decades trying every diet plan known to man when the answer to my problem was the solution to all our problems – “But, God…”

Who can break through the isolation? God

Who can take control if we but submit? God

Who can work miracles when we’ve messed up our lives and

see no way out of our misery?  God

It’s not about us. It’s all about God.

As we start this New Year, I pray for emotional and physical healing for isolated, compulsive people like I used to be. God bless you.
